WELCOME TO SUNNYSIDE

We acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

ABOUT SCHOOL COUNCIL

YOU MAY HAVE HEARD...AT SUNNYSIDE SCHOOL, EVERYONE IS COOL.

The unforgettable lyrics of our school song say it all: at Sunnyside school, everyone is cool, and people are kind and friendly.

The Sunnyside School Council is a group of kind, friendly, and cool folk who collaborate with the school to support and enhance our children's learning and promote Sunnyside school’s core values:

We are connected to each other; we are connected to the land; we are connected to our community.

We'd love to see you at one of our next council meetings.

WHAT COUNCIL DOES

COUNCIL DOES MORE THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

Virtually all of our school's extra-curricular activities, including swimming classes, school dances and yoga, are organized and funded by the Sunnyside School Council.

We also initiate, manage and support several in-school programs and infrastructure projects, such as the Grandparents Read program and the Outdoor Learning Circle seen in the photo below this text.

We even made the website you are navigating right now!

HOW DO YOU BECOME A COUNCIL MEMBER?
GUESS WHAT...YOU ALREADY ARE.

GET INVOLVED

Did you know that if your student attends Sunnyside Elementary, you are already a member of the School Council?  Yes indeed.  Your wildest dreams come true.

Welcome to the club!

Now that you're in, here's more about how you might contribute should you feel inspired.

FUNDRAISING

The majority of the money the Council spends on events, projects or school initiatives, such as field trips and extracurricular activities like yoga, is raised through fundraising.

VOLUNTEER

Council needs many volunteers for everything from casino night to refreshing the school's naturalized areas and organizing special events. Don't have time to attend council meetings? Sign up for the volunteer list, and we'll let you know when opportunities arise.

JOIN THE TEAM

Our outstanding executive does most of the heavy lifting regarding day-to-day operations. Being on the board is an excellent opportunity to work closely with other members and to steward specific initiatives that interest you.
